The Beginning…

“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17

Yes, I started this with a Bible verse, but please don’t run! You might find yourself surprised.

The core of this verse is friendship. It is community. It is people coming together not only to exist alongside each other but to actively better each other. To sharpen iron is to make it the most effective version of itself. To sharpen each other is to make each other more fit to fulfill our own purpose, whatever that may be. And that is what I hope this blog cultivates. My goal here is not to preach to you, or to assume some sort of false importance as I publish my thoughts for you to read, as though they are particularly profound. The goal here is actually quite the opposite.

A thought that has brought me immense comfort over the years when I find myself isolated, assured that no one could possibly understand what is happening to me or inside of me, is this:

You’re not that special.

You’re not that original.

Now, I’m sure you’re thinking something along the lines of, “Wow, harsh…” But I swear it’s not! Bear with me. It is me reminding myself that there are so many others out there who are feeling what I have felt, or whose brains work the same way mine does, even when I convince myself that it is broken. It is me reminding myself that there is community in this world for me. And that, my friends, is the goal of this blog. Community.

All of that being said, what can you expect to find here? Well, to be quite frank, I’m not entirely sure yet. I think I just want to get my thoughts on a page. Some weeks, those thoughts might be a book review, some weeks they might be a contemplation over the state of the world, and some weeks they might just be a crazy thought spiral that hits me in the shower. But no matter what they are, I know there is a community out there that wants to hear them, and maybe even contribute to them. This is the place for that, and that is what you can expect to find here.

So, let’s sharpen each other.

I’m excited to share with y’all.

Love ya, and till next post ;)
